“Really, one of the things everybody ought just to be able to have is clean water. So when I saw WaterAid did this challenge, I thought, what if I could do that? And my family said go on, of course you can. And so I wrote out some flyers. And I got a great response, actually – so many people said they’d support me.
“My motivation was the realisation that I could still do something that was useful. I really enjoyed it. Just occasionally if the weather was really, really miserable, I wouldn't do it, but I would try and do more the next day.
“It was great fun because I had my mobile phone with me and that told me how much distance I'd done every day. It was a great motivation and it was a reason to get up. I got a bit competitive with myself.
“If you want to raise money for a good cause, just do it – a month isn’t that long really!”
